Volkswagen Kharmann Ghia

Bilde
A buddy of my old man used to cruise around in a Volkswagen Kharmann Ghia back in the 1970s. He was a real nice, sensible, and fun fella, but he was also a bit of a wild vestfolding from Norway with an old-school mixed accent from inner Vestfold and Grenland. What made him a bit crazy, or well, at least a touch eccentric, was that he had a tendency to drive his car a mite too far, and on top of that, he used to sleep in his car, which he called his "home-mobile." Now, this whole "home-mobile" thing wasn't just about sleeping in the car; I reckon it had a lot to do with the fact that his cars were often filled with critters called "house beetles," bugs that like to hang around windows and such. The nutty part is that he supposedly had a nice ol' single-family home down in Stokke, East Norway, with a really big yard. Ain't nothin' wrong with that place, they say. But his "home-mobile," now that's a different story. Even though h...

Morris 8!

Bilde
Back in the 1960s, my old man used to work with this fella who drove a Morris 8. Now, let me tell ya, this guy had a real tussle on his hands with that car. He was always messin' with it, fixing and tinkering like there's no tomorrow. He didn't have the cash for a new ride and would often show up late to work on account of this ongoing battle. But there's this one time he showed up at the job with the strangest look on his face. He just seemed downright gloomy. Pops and the rest of his work buddies had to ask what was wrong. And you know what he said? "The engine fell out" (in that true-blue East Norwegian accent). Turns out, that car, particularly the front part, was just hangin' over the spot where the engine had decided to call it quits. The engine mounts had downright rusted to bits!

Carbon capture systems, Rjukan Railway, Tinn Lake Ferries, and Telemark World UNESCO Heritage

As a little add-on to my vintage car blog, I'm fixin' to share a bit about something that most vintage and amcar enthusiasts, especially them folks who love them big, luxurious American rides from the 1920s to the 1960s, might have a bit of a distaste for. I'm talkin' 'bout them V8s, V10s, V6s, V12s, and that Cadillac V16 from the 1930s with a V16 engine. Now, as y'all might've noticed, for the last 20-40 years, there's been a whole lot of talk 'bout the climate, and over the last 10-20 years, it's become pretty darn clear that things have taken a turn for the worse. Gasoline and diesel prices have gone through the roof due to the war in Ukraine and deals about hikin' up energy prices - electricity, gas, and diesel ain't no different. As for convertin' old vintage cars into electric ones, well, I'm a touch against it too. But don't you worry none, 'cause nowadays we got ourselves carbon capture setups. (Here's the stea...

Duesenberg J & SJ Studebaker President & Champion round about 1930s!

Bilde
(Duesenberg) (Studebaker President, just like cousin Anton rarely had, but almost always with a big grin on his face) (Studebaker Champion roadster, just like Cousin Anton often drove) Duesenberg J and SJ are vintage cars that were produced during the interwar period and are absolutely incredible rides! When I was about 8 years old, I saw a Duesenberg pictured in the Guinness World Records as the most expensive car in history. Of course, I started to dream... Nowadays, I know that these dreams were just wishful thinking since this car has always been one of the world's most expensive and exclusive vehicles. Cousin Anton from Donald's side is said to have driven the roadster version of the Studebaker President. But it was probably the roadster editions of the Studebaker Dictator and Champion that Cousin Anton's lottery winnings were spent on. Once upon a time, I thought that my grandfather had driven some of these cars when I had heard that he supposedly owned a 1936 Studeba...
