Talbot Samba Rallye and Talbot Samba Cabriolet

Ah tell ya, back in 'bout the year 2000, Ah saw me a Talbot Samba over at the car sportin' house fer the young'uns o' Bærum, down at Bud in Bærum. This here was one mean rally version, painted up all fancy in yellow and white. Looked like it had already taken a good bit o' beatin' from them kids, an' shoot, Ah ain't sure if it's even kickin' today.

Now, there’s another feller Ah knew back then – still know 'em now, come to think of it – from Rykkinn in Bærum. Reckon they drove a Talbot rally car back in the '90s, even hit the Lyngås track over in Lier. Guess they had a connection through someone they knew.

Ford Edsel 1958-60!

     Ford Edsel — now those cars were somethin’ else, loud, wild and downright badass. They’re ’bout as close as Ford Motor Company ever got to matchin’ GM’s Cadillac Eldorado, those big ol’ late‑’50s gull‑wing cruisers. Problem was just that the Edsel itself came loaded with more quirks and troubles than a rattlesnake in a mailbox. You could kinda compare it to the European Ford Sierra from the ’80s — same deal, whole heap of issues. I’ve talked ’bout that one before. My old man drove one all through the ’90s and then some. Worst model they ever made, and lemme tell ya, growin’ up in that thing was rough — smelled like dust and gasoline on every damn trip. And my dad, who grew up in the ’50s and used to care ’bout cars back in the day, he never had a kind word for the Edsel either. He knew it was trouble from the start. And he’s admitted more than once that my childhood Sierra wasn’t worth a plugged nickel either. I also wrote recently ’bout an old Model A Ford he grew ...

The Fiat 130 Coupé and Berlina, and the Fiat 128

  Fiat 128 – most folks know this one as a regular ol’ sedan, but did ya know you could get it in a whole bunch of badass coupe versions? You had the Sport 3P, the Berlinetta, and even them special Moretti Coupe and Moretti Targa Coupe models. The Fiat 128 sedan — the one everybody’s heard of — even came in Abarth and rally setups. I remember when I was a kid, walkin’ around this little nature reserve down below where I lived, and I spotted an old Fiat 128 coupe tossed down a hillside. Looked like it belonged to somebody livin’ nearby. Probably shoulda cleaned that mess up, seein’ as it was in a nature reserve. A few years later it finally got hauled off. Sure wish I had been the one to snag that Fiat back then. Fiat 130 Coupe og Berlina – now that was some real-deal luxury from Fiat back in the 1970s. They didn’t build many of ’em, so nowadays they’re rare as hen’s teeth

De Dietrich and Dietrich Lorraine!

  De Dietrich og Dietrich Lorraine – now that there’s a car brand from way over in Alsace-Lorraine in France. They were buildin’ cars under license from Amedee-Bolee back in the day. And in 1902, none other than Ettore Bugatti himself put together a whole mess of brand-new cars for De Dietrich. After a while they went by the name Dietrich Lorraine instead. They were runnin’ them early automobile races in the first years of the 1900s. Later on they started makin’ all sorts of mighty fine, fancy automobiles for high society folk — real upper-crust rides — but the whole outfit went belly-up in 1935.
